William Breton ob. 1261, leaving estates in Cambridgeshire, Essex and Northants to his son John, (C.I.P.M., i, 491) who probably transferred Northants estates to his son, also John (the younger) who predeceased his father in 1306 (C.I.P.M., iv, 365, C.C.R. 1306, p.385), leaving Northants estates to his son John, age 10. John the elder and his grandson both died in 1311, the former around 10th June, the latter around the 20th June. (C.I.P.M., v, 262 and 293) Heir in both cases was Maud, daughter of John le Breton the younger and wife of Richard de Rivers. Elder John therefore active between 1261, at age 26-28, and 1311 at age 74. (C.P.R.1311. 369).

 
Probable Settlement:-
1292-3 180 acres and 17s 8d rent in Mayland and Burnham to Roger Baynard and his wife Margery and her heirs. FF.ii.75.534.
